Star Wars: The Force Awakens has a multicultural cast of characters, a fact that has set off a firestorm on social media. #BoycottStarWarsVII became a trending Twitter topic on Monday, with some people calling for the boycott of a movie they claim is “anti-white.” That, however has incited even more people to slam the proposed boycotters, resulting in an online racial debate about the sci-fi blockbuster. One of the first tweets using the hashtag came from a user who wrote, “#BoycottStarWarsVII because it is anti-white propaganda promoting #whitegenocide.” The person added, “White children deserve wholesome movies, not more PC anti-white diversity crap.” There were many additional tweets in support of the boycott that are too racist and offensive to print. However, tons of Twitter users have called out the protestors, writing things like, “If #BoycottStarWarsVII results in cinemas being free of racists, all the better.”
