University of Illinois xmas carol hotline enters its 56th year

The University of Illinois is celebrating the 56th year of its annual hotline providing Christmas carols for anyone in need. Starting December 10th through today, students manned phones at Snyder hall as part of the annual “Dial-a-Carol” program.

“The idea behind the program is quite simple,” a post on the university’s housing website read. “Anyone from anywhere can call us and request a holiday tune to be sung over the telephone. Our program runs 24 hours a day for seven days and is held each year during finals week of the first semester.”

The program began tallying the number of calls on Facebook, reaching over 11,000 calls as of Tuesday which surpassed the previous record of 6,800.
