While we all love to sleep, most of us aren’t getting enough of it, and so-called experts just love reminding us of that. The National Sleep Foundation has just come out with new recommendations for the amount of shuteye we all need, and while the recommended time for adults, ages 26-64, hasn’t changed – it’s still seven to nine hours – other age ranges now apparently need more than originally thought.
New recommendations include:
– Newborn (0-3 months): 14-17 hours (previously: 12-18 hours)
– Infant (4-11 months): 12-15 hours (previously: 14-15 hours)
– Toddler (1-2 years): 11-14 hours (previously: 12-14 hours)
– Preschooler (3-5 years): 10-13 hours (previously: 11-13 hours)
– School-age child (6-13 years): 9-11 hours (previously: 10-11 hours)
– Teen (14-17 years): 8-10 hours (previously: 8½-9½ hours)
– Young adult (18-25 years): 7-9 hours
– Adult (26-64 years): 7-9 hours (no change)
– Older adult (65+ years): 7-8 hours
Do you get the recommended amount of sleep? If not, how much sleep do you usually get? How much do you need to function properly? What keeps you from getting a good night sleep?
ALSO… do you or have you ever used a sleep aid? Â If you have, do you feel rested afterwards? Are you getting real sleep? I’ve heard so many crazy stories about sleeping pills. Anyone experience some craziness while on sleeping pills?
